Previous events, such as the Run To Remember: CPT David Hortman 5K, honored Dave Hortman, a decorated U.S. Army Captain and Boys State staff member who inspired many with his dedication and service. Participants joined in supporting Palmetto Boys State, with prizes awarded in various age groups, a Team Award for the largest group, and a performance T-shirt included with registration.

At the 2024 annual Sinkies Talent Show & Awards Ceremony by Palmetto Boys State, a representative of the Friends of Boys State 5k Committee presented the even proceeds in the amount of $7,117.24 to the Palmetto Boys State scholarship fund!
