Proceeds from the beer go to USC student-athletes through Garnet Trust, established to help USC take advantage of the NCAA’s new allowances for players to profit from their name, image and likeness (or NIL).
“We are donating $1 per case sold in distribution to the Garnet Trust Foundation, a 501(c)3, to support the community of student-athletes through their NIL opportunities and causes.”
SANDSTORM Game Day Lager, available in garnet-and-black six-pack cans at retailers across the state and on draft at the brewery, was released August 19th, 2023.
“This opportunity allows us to support our community of student-athletes who are building a positive impact through their NIL opportunities and developing a culture of giving back by raising awareness for charitable causes.”
Introducing a beer specifically brewed to contribute to the compensation of student-athletes represents an innovative approach within the ongoing efforts to make the most of the opportunities presented by NIL allowances.

CB18 Bar and Gill in Five Points of Columbia hosted an event in honor of the athletes signed with the Garnet Trust July 29th, where they served a “Mystery Beer”, which was announced to be the new dedicated game day lager created in collaboration with Steel Hands Brewing for the NIL signed athletes!

In a huge release party at Steel Hands including Gamecock NIL athletes signing autographs, live music and more, Sandstorm was poured for the first time to the public at 12:00 pm on August 19th!

Sandstorm has begun popping up all over Columbia! More and more stores are stocking their shelves with the rice lager with more stores coming in tow.
